"Permission to quilt"
We are going to take clothing or just our own stash and work organically to create a small quilt top. LUKE will walk the class through a series of steps that will deconstruct and reconstruct fabric into something greater than the sum of its parts. we will be working with abstract forms and learning how to harness fabrics that may be a little outside of the normative quilting oeuvre.
What you Need:
- two matching garments or pieces of fabric 1/2 yard or bigger that match and a contrast fabric that is 1/4 yard or bigger.
- I suggest shirts from goodwill if you don't have anything at home you need cut. I would shy away from stretchy, thick or to slippery, as those are more difficult to work with.
a sewing machine,
a rotary cutter,
a cutting mat,
a ruler no less than 24"
black thread or thread to match the main color of the project
and access to an iron with ironing board, preferably one per 2-3 students or more.
